Statement

My work looks at line, pattern and structure in both the urban and natural environment. I like the way lines and pattern exists in our surroundings and how these shapes and forms are defined and allow the world to be seen.

As a printmaker I find the process of preparing the plate to the final printing stage plays an important part in my work. It is vital in making these works that the lines both random and chaotic, flow freely in my composition. They demonstrate intensity, form, depth and colour. The ink forms the work, it’s what the work is made of. Then there’s the paper; it’s what the work sits on. I love the weight, texture & quality of mould-made printmaking paper.

I am attracted to numbers and letters - they are tools of organization and communication allowing us to plan our lives. In my work I discard their intended function and focus purely on their pleasing aesthetic shapes, building and constructing compositions. Although my work is mainly two dimensional, in some respects I work like a sculptor, building and constructing via the mark making process, manipulating my materials to create the final piece.
